This is the face of Kerala. For me, this memory is as strong as that of cruising the famous back waters, the chinese fishing nets on the beach and wandering through the spice hills.
This is the face of a Kathakali dancer. Kathakarli is the ancient dance ritual performed by men only.
The dancers tell stories from the Hindu classics, the Mahabharata and the life of Krishna using only their makeup, costumes, facial expressions and hand movements to convey the story. It is an intricate and fascinating mixture of music, dance, drama and mime.
