This is the exterior of the New Museum in New York.
The museum is dedicated to ‘new art, new ideas’.  They are known for being adventurous in the selection of new and emerging artists that they choose to exhibit. The building’s design exemplifies this. It’s new, it’s different, it’s fun! It also won their Japanese designers a highly prestigious architectural award in 2010.
Situated on Bowery at the intersection of Sutton St, the New Museum stands out among the brown ironstones and old shops of Nolita. It also stands out because of  it’s fabulous design, which has been described as a ‘sculptural stack of rectilinear boxes dynamically shifted off axis around a central steel core’.

Wow, I go to NYC and I’ve never even heard of this museum. Looks like I’ve added to my must-see list. Great photo!
It’s certainly one to add to the list! Even if you are not into ultra modern art, the building is worth seeing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting
I like some modern architecture, but on the whole I prefer older styles. I find it so much more welcoming and peaceful. 🙂
The older architecture certainly is more welcoming Krista but I do love seeing the clear lines and design of modern buildings such as this one. I’m always amazed as to what architects can do.
I really like the look of this museum, especially as it is so intriguing when you’re walking along Bowery – which has so many styles already, not to mention that view of the Empire State as you look uptown! I’m not so much of a fan of the museum however… I love the Met for endless art viewing 😉 How tall is that rose by the way?? Great shots Jenny!
Thanks Marina. I can totally understand your preference for the Met…I love it too. Not everyone is a fan of avante garde art but it’s great that they are offering it and giving new artists a chance. I just loved the building! The rose is the height of one and a half stories…i’d guess that would be about 30ft!
30 feet! wow. I didn’t know if your second photo was playing tricks on me so thought I’d ask. I agree – a space for artists to showcase work is always great, especially in a building as innovative as this one. I might have to visit again soon – you’ve inspired me!
Wonderful photos and again you’ve highlighted a new place to visit with good reasons about why to get there.
Thanks Jo. The building is stunning and certainly worth a detour to see if you’re ever in New York.
It reminds me of one of those marzipan-covered wedding cakes…I do like it though. Must look interesting in that part of the city.
A great analogy Andrea! It’s fun and certainly does stand out in that area. Next time you’re in New York you should pop by and have a look!
