For me this is Sicily. Fields of red poppies dotted with olive trees and often a stone wall or two dividing the landscape.
This photo was taken on the way from Trapani to Erice, a small medieval town situated high on a hill overlooking Trapani and the eastern coast of Sicily but it is a scene that is repeated often throughout the island.
What is your image of Sicily?

Wow! That is so beautiful, Jenny. 🙂 I would love to sit there dreaming, napping, writing, drawing. Beautiful.
Thanks Krista! The country side is quite stunning, especially when the flowers are out!
This reminds me of the field of poppies Dorothy and her cohorts traveled through in “The Wizard of Oz.” 🙂 How lovely it must be to see this in person!
It really is quite beautiful when the poppies are out. I hadn’t though of Dorothy, Karene…perfect!
I have a similar photograph from Provence. I LOVE poppy fields and wish they would last better as a cut flower.
It would be nice if they lasted as a cut flower but maybe they are telling us that they are best left in the fields to be appreciated. I’d forgotten that I too had seen them in Provence!
Aah Jenny, that speaks to my heart! My dad went to Sicily WWII – I adore red poppies, now I know why! Thanks for posting this great pic.. x j (Think they are called Flander Poppies?).. http://www.greatwar.co.uk/article/remembrance-poppy.htm
That’s lovely Jean and thank you for the link. Poppies have always meant Anzac Day to me so it was great to read the story behind the poppy as a flower of remembrance.

The last time I was in Italy, from Rome to Puglia, fields were positively strewn with poppies. I haven’t been to Sicily yet, but whenever I see poppy fields it makes me ache for springtime in Italy. Looks like you were able to enjoy the same gorgeous spectacle!
Hi Rafaella. We loved seeing the fields of poppies too. They truly are beautiful wherever you are in Italy in Spring. YOU’ll have to try and visit stunning Sicily! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
